The Giants were not pleased how they came out in this one allowing a short-handed marker early on for the first goal of the game, but they had to be pleased with how they bounced back. The G-Men capitalised on the PP less than a minute later to tie the game. The Thunderbirds added two more before the end of the period to go into the intermission 3-1, off of some poor defensive gaffes by the G’s and a bit of soft ‘tending. The G-Men swapped goalies to start the second and went on to score 7 unanswered goals, while allowing none. They dominated the Thunderbirds for the final 40 and put an exclamation mark, scoring from all over the ice and getting big traffic in front of Calvin Pickard. A good bout mid-game gave the fans a treat as well.
Lindsay Nielsen opened the scoring for the Thunderbirds, stripping the puck and beating Mark Segal short-handed. The goal was unassisted. The Giants got that one back on the same PP when James Wright found the twine past Pickard, with Brendan Gallagher and Craig Cunningham getting the assists. Prab Rai regained the lead on the PP getting one to slip past Segal. Rai scored another one a bit later in the frame to push Seattle’s lead to 2 goals. The Giants swapped goalies, pulling Segal and putting in Derek Tendler. Tendler was perfect on the night, turning away 12 shots. The Giants held shots on their net very low in the game, keeping the T-Birds in middle single digits all three periods. Milan Kytnar scored his 8th of the season to pull the game to within one. James Henry scored late in the second to pull even, assisted by Tomas Vincour and Cunningham. JT Barnett tickled the twine in the final minute to give the visitors the lead for the first time in the game. Nolan Toigo and Neil Manning garnered the helpers.
Tendler did not see many shots, but held his team in the game regardless giving them a chance to bring the hammer down in the third. Kevin Connauton broke his 10 game scoring slump, putting another notch on his belt, with a solo effort on the PP. Kytnar scored his second of the game off of David Musil and Brett Lyon a few minutes later. Connauton potted his 23rd of the season just under two minutes later, with Nathan Burns and Cunningham padding their stats. Breitkreuz wrapped up the scoring for the game at 7:38, with an unassisted marker, completing the come-back rout. Nolan Toigo and Brendan Dillon threw down in the second in a lively bout.
The Giants out shot the T-Birds 39-19 and they were perfect for the second night in a row on their PP, scoring on both of their chances. Seattle managed 1 for 4 on their man-advantage. The Giants used a nice mishmash of line-ups, to light up their scoring spreading the wealth around and it worked wonders. Their three straight wins are good way to go before going into their Eastern swing, starting in Saskatoon on Friday.
