The Giants were a mess in Moose Jaw. Don Hay juggled his lines like manic Cirque de Soleil wanna-be, dropping most of the pins in the process. His usual patient style gave way to repeatedly shuffling the deck. Craig Cunningham and Brendan Gallagher seemed to have a different line-mate every shift and it didn’t help matters. Jeff Bosch was good when he had to be between the pipes for the Warriors to get the goose-egg, but although the Giants managed 36 shots on his net, their scoring chances were few. The Giants were not getting any puck luck, but then again were not actively creating any for themselves either. To be blunt the team was a mess, allowing an early SH goal against to set the tone for the game and then opening the door in the third for the Warriors to get the insurance marker. Nolan Toigo, who was a bit of pilon in this one, and Jesse Paradis went toe to toe in the second to give the fans a bit more to excite them.
The Giants kind of bounced back in Swift Current, but played a softer game than they have had as of late not willing to pay the price to gut out the win. James Henry scored the only goal of the first SH, giving the G’s the early lead. Swifty tied it up in the second on 1 of their 9 PP chances in the game. Tomas Vincour got that one back in the third, but the Giants four games in five nights caught up with them as they sagged in the third allowing 4 goals against to their 1. The Broncos scored two to get the lead and then the Giants JT Barnett tied it up before allowing a late marker and an empty netter by the Broncos to put the game out of reach. Not a bad game, but the boys were not able to keep their intensity for the whole game and let it slide in the third, when the home-town boys stepped it up. A very chippy game with lots of penalties called. Mark Segal could have been better in this one, and the G’s defense broke down when they least needed it to do so. A tough loss, but the Giants didn’t completely give-up despite fatigue taking its toll in a physically tiring game. Credit the Giants PK tonight as they only gave up one while short-handed. The Giants have a week off before suiting up for a couple of BC Division match-ups. They also clinched their 5th straight BC Division title with their win in Regina.
