Jamie Tucker garners his first SO of the season versus the high flying Winterhawks who have now played 6 periods without tickling the twine. The Portland squad had a great start to the season as it looks as if they finally have a worthy team playing in front of Kurtis Mucha. The Giants pounded Mucha with 40 shots, scoring on the PP and SH as well as two even-strength goals.
The Giants opened the scoring in the first as Craig Cunningham snuck one past Mucha for his 11th of the season. JT Barnett and Nolan Toigo tallied assists on the play. Milan Kytnar scored his third as a Giants short-handed in the second. Brendan Gallagher got the lone assist. Having a tough time holding onto leads this young season the Giants showed their metal holding onto their lead and adding two more in the third. Cunningham got his second of the game on the PP just past the mid-mark of the third period. Kevin Connauton and James Henry got the helpers. A few minutes later Connauton scored one of his own, assisted by Barnett and Lane Scheidl. The Giants out shot the ‘hawks 40-24 on the night, going 1 for 7 while holding their opposition to 0 for 5. They have a day off to head to Kennewick where they take on the TC Americans on Friday and the Spokane Chiefs on Saturday, before heading home for a game versus the Oil Kings on Sunday, an .. ahem .. country music themed game (do I really want to go to this one?). The Giants still have their work cut out for them but they had a good start tonight.
