The Giants were hoping to go up in the series by stealing one in Tri-City, but the American’s goalie had other ideas. Tri opened the scoring in the first. The Giants got that one back in the second, but then it was the Drew Owsley show. The Giants pressed hard and heavy to the Americans net in the middle frame, but could not solve the netminder. Meantime the Americans went 2 for 2 on the PP in a game that saw very few penalties called. TC held on in the third. The Americans ran the Giants out of minutes for the second straight game, potting a late one in the final frame to put the game out of reach. There was very little emotion in this one despite a great toe-to-toe scrap between Nolan Toigo and Mike Brown in the first.
16 yr old D-man Zach Yuen got his first of the season when his shot went in off of Toigo’s stick. Toigo had made a nice defensive play before the mishap, but was in the wrong place when the point shot was released. Toigo and Brown squared off with Toigo getting a hailstorm of shots in early. Brown came back a bit, but the decision went to Toigo. Lance Bouma ripped a rocket past Owsley off of a nice feed from Craig Cunningham in the second to tie the game. Tyler Schmidt got credit for a PP goal that was originally waived off due to the net being dislodged from its moorings. After going upstairs it was called a goal. Brooks Macek got another PP marker a few minutes later. Brendan Shinnimin potted one late in the third to put the game out of reach. The Giants out shot the Ams 41-31. They were 0 for 1 on the PP, while the Americans went 2 for 2. The Giants need to win one at home to force a game 7 back in TC. Game 6 is at the Coliseum on Sunday, the puck drops at 5pm PDT.
